Cric with a Pen, Just like on TV!

From the world of WTF comes this study :

yep, a study on the feasibility of ten medical laypersons to perform a cricothyrotomy on a “fresh” cadaver.

With a ballpoint pen.

Using three different ball point pens of varying inner diameter, all ten volunteers could perforate the skin, but only one could penetrate the cricothyroid ligament except for one participant, who required 3 attempts and required more than 5 minutes to do so.

To quote the authors, this volunteer used, “a lot of patience and force.”

and of course, “A cricothyroidotomy just with a ballpoint pen is virtually impossible.”

So…. dont believe everything you see on TV?
